The Village Project celebrates national AONTAS STAR Award

The Village Project won an AONTAS STAR award on Monday 23rd February.

STAR stands for Showcasing Teamwork, Awarding Recognition.

The award was presented during a ceremony hosted in the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin.

AONTAS give awards as part of the Adult Learners’ Festival.

The Village Project was established in 2012.

The Village Project won one of seven national awards presented by AONTAS for work in adult learning projects all over Ireland.

The awards celebrate these projects have helped our society, our economy and our local communities.

The Village Project supports young people with a mild intellectual disability and/or autism.

The project offers work, training, education and recreation with individual support.

The group have set up and now run their own business to create employment for themselves. The business includes an art gallery, craft centre and coffee dock.

They work in partnership with local artists to find the right arts and crafts for the craft centre and art gallery, showcasing the very best of local art and craft.

The Village Project is co-funded by Genio and Cope Foundation.

Shane O’Neill who was part of the team that represented The Village Project at the AONTAS STAR Awards said “It was really great to get an award that shows the success of The Village Project. The interviews were tough, but we worked together and impressed the judges. It is not everyday we get a national award, it highlights the Village Project as making a big difference to our lives. We would like to thank everyone that helped us to get the award, we have had great support. We are really proud and the award will spur us on to do more and more because we know “Together we can do great things!”
