Sunday’s Well Rebels will defend their title as World Champions this season.

The second international mixed ability rugby tournament will take place in Vitoria–Gasteiz, northern Spain.

The Tournament will be held over 5 days from Monday 21st August to Friday 26th August.

Preparations have already begun with two matches played already.

The Rebels suffered a 15-10 loss to the Sunday’s Well 3rd team back in October.

The Rebels then travelled to Swansea two weeks ago and enjoyed back to back victories over the Swansea Gladiators under the stewardship of their new captain Joseph McCarthy Hayes.

Here is what Joseph had to say about what his new role means to him and recent game against the Swansea Gladiators.

“I am very proud to be the captain of the Sunday’s Well Rebels for this season. I have a very important job this year keeping all my team mates motivated in this world cup year.”

“We played Swansea Gladiators the world’s oldest mixed ability rugby team two weeks ago, in Dunvent Rugby Club Swansea. It was a hard game. I opened up the score board by running in the first try from great back line play. Conor Crowley my team mate ran in the second try for us in the second half which I converted.”

“Swansea came back hard at us and scored which made for an exciting last 5 minutes as they camped on our half. Discipline was important and as captain with help from my fellow forward Michael Moynihan made sure the team did not give away any silly frees. We held out to win for the second time against Swansea and our first win in Wales.”

“I was very proud of my team and coaches, after the match we went back to the club house and I made a presentation to the Swansea Gladiators from all of the Rebels to congratulate them on 25 years of mixed ability rugby.”

“Our next game is on the 7th of January away to Galwegians up in Galway so we will all be taking it easy on the turkey over the christmas!!”
