General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR)

There is new law, called the General Data Protection Regulation 2016.

It comes into place on the 25th May 2018.

This law is about any personal information that is kept on you, for example your medical files.

You will be told what information is kept on you. You will be told why this information is needed.This information will be correct and up to date.

If this information is no longer needed, it will no longer be kept.

This information will be kept in a safe place.You have the right to look at information that is kept about you.

Cope Foundation must show that they are following the rules about keeping information.
It must be explained to you in an easy way why information is kept on you.

You will be asked for your consent before information can be used about you.You can say No to information being used about you at any time.

A data protection officer will make sure that Cope Foundation is following these rules.

You have the right to move your data from one controller to another. Cope Foundation is an example of a controller.

If these rules are not followed it must be reported to the data protection office.
If these rules are broken, it could lead to a penalty or a fine.
