Sunday's Well Rebels win at Better Together

Monday 14 December 2015

The Better Together video competition is a competition for groups like Cope Foundation, to show everyone why working together is better.

Cope Foundation worked with Sunday’s Well Rebels to create a video.

Sunday’s Well Rebels are a Mixed Ability Rugby team that was started out of a partnership between Cope Foundation and Sunday’s Well R.F.C.

Sunday’s Well Rebels are Ireland’s first ever mixed ability rugby team and also the first ever mixed ability rugby world champions.

Cope Foundation and Sunday’s Well Rebels entered the Large Charity category.

There was a public vote to find out which 10 videos were the most popular in each category.

When the 10 best videos were picked judges then chose the overall winner.

The winner got a trophy and a cash prize of €2,000.

Cope Foundation and Sunday’s Well Rebels did not win their category but instead won a People’s Choice Award.

The People’s Choice Award was won by the video that got the most votes from the public.

James Healy is the captain of Sundays Well Rebels.

James wrote a speech for accepting the award.

James said: “As Captain of Sunday’s Well Rebels Mixed Ability Rugby Team and a person supported by Cope Foundation I am honoured to accept this Better Together Award for them both.

Better together means I am member of Sunday’s Well Rugby Club and I am a World Cup winner with the Sunday’s Well Rebels.

Better together means that Sunday’s Well Rugby Club and Cope Foundation work together to help people see Ability not Disability both on and off the Rugby field.

We want to inspire more Rugby clubs around Ireland to set up mixed ability rugby teams in their clubs as it is Better Together. I would like to thank all my teammates, coaches and managers in Sunday’s Well Rugby Club and Cope Foundation.”
