Groups promote Inclusion through Soccer

Wednesday 29 October 2014

Cope Foundation has a sports area in Montenotte called SPRAOI.

In August 2014 SPRAOI was opened up to host the Asylum Seekers World Cup.

The tournament was set up by Community Policing, Cork City Council, Cope Foundation, the Immigrant Council and Cork Asylum Seekers Support Group.

It was such a big success that Cope Foundation’s Physical Activity and Sports Department now gives Cork Asylum Seekers Support Group permission to use SPRAOI.

So every Wednesday evening groups come to SPRAOI to play soccer.

Many different groups of many different nationalities supported by Cork Asylum Seekers Support Group use SPRAOI.

Players from the Romanian group collected money for the donation as a thank you for using SPRAOI.

On the 29th of October Liana Ghidel of the Romanian group presented a donation to the Special Olympics men’s soccer team of Cope Foundation.
